15,000 SF – Interior Architectural Design for a New Single Family Home in Kings Point, NY
We were hired to do Interior Architectural Design Services to a new house under construction. This was a very challenging project to design, as we had to work with a series of existing constraints. This house was under construction when we started, with a finished traditional style exterior, and an unfinished traditionally framed interior. We had the confinement of the building outline with all the windows already in place.
We began with a few set conditions; we would have the authority to re-design the interior spaces for an optimum layout aligned with today’s modern lifestyle. This involved moving walls, changing layouts where needed, and removing layers of ceilings & soffits wherever necessary. The outcome was remarkable. Turning a very traditional language floor plan, into an airy, open yet elegantly refined interior space. We redesigned the lighting and electrical layout as well.
For the finishes we used variations of color tones, with hues of soft greens, violets, periwinkle, grey and blues but all in very light tones side by side. As you move through the spaces, you will see the subtle changes in the color.
The kitchen, breakfast room, and family room have variation of greens. Two-tones of green for the kitchen cabinets along with soft creme stained oak for the island and cabinets framing the range. The custom hood is green with antique brass banding. We used two variations of green wallpaper for the ceiling. The outcome is a playful juxtaposition of finishes and colors at home with each other, creating a stunning kitchen.
The bathrooms are bolder and more vibrant in celebration of colors. Her master bathroom and closet are predominantly in hues of creme and gold. His master bathroom and closet with hues of blue grey and mosaics with bold dark grey tones. The study bath has variations of deep green and grey. The guest powder room has hues of blue purple and soft pink, and the family powder room is a bold green.
